Rebecca Leer teaches Oil Painting Landscape, Seascape, Still Life and Portrait 10:00am - 1:00pm for Adults Wednesday and Thursday Daytime

She also teaches Drawing For Young People- Basic Techniques of Drawing from Life 3:30pm - 5:30pm Tuesday Afternoon.

Rebecca Jean Leer is a painter of American traditional realism. She teaches oil painting for adults and drawing for young people.

In her painting class, individuals explore techniques of oil painting as it applies to landscape, still life and portraiture. Following nature as her guide, Ms. Leer emphasizes the study of spectral light with use of the prismatic palette. Successfully using that light effect to evoke our three dimensional world along with an understanding of the compositional elements of the two dimensional canvas make great paintings.

In her class for young people, drawing is explored as an art unto itself and as augmentation to painting. A strong foundation in the principles of drawing, like a standard in the artist's toolbox, propels the student forward in all artistic endeavors. Students work from life to capture the light effect in line and tone in every picture. Those seeking to develop portfolios are encouraged to take her class.

Classically trained, Ms. Leer received a BFA degree from Rochester Institute of Technology for medical illustration and studied illustration on a scholarship at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, CA. After moving to Ridgewood, she studied painting with John Phillip Osborne. She has been a professional artist for over 25 years, gleaning awards and honors from the Societies of Illustrators of New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., the Hudson Valley Artists Association, the American Artist Professional League, Allied Artists of America, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Oil Painters of America and others, including the prestigious Land of Enchantment Award for her children's book illustrations. Her work has been seen in books, magazines, advertisements, museum exhibits and corporate and private collections.

Ms. Leer was recently profiled by American Artist Magazine as one of 12 up and coming artists handpicked by the artist community.

Ms. Leer currently serves on the Board of Trustees at the Ridgewood Art Institute and curates their Permanent Collection.
